Jamshedpur, July 4, 2024: Tata Steel hosted the closing event of its Sustainability Month 2024 on July 3, 2024, at Steelennium Hall in Jamshedpur. The event, titled Satva 2 and themed “The Resonance of Life Continues,” underscored Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainability and its vision for a greener future.

A significant announcement at the program was the launch of India’s first Carbon Bank, a virtual repository through which carbon dioxide will become a value-creating asset for future usage. The Carbon Bank is aimed at measuring and managing carbon dioxide savings generated from various sustainability projects. These savings not only contribute to environmental goals but also hold potential for generating revenue that can be reinvested into further decarbonization efforts.

On the occasion, Rajiv Mangal, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel, remarked, “In the face of mounting global concerns about sustainability, Tata Steel has taken proactive steps to spearhead carbon abatement initiatives as part of its unwavering commitment to sustainability across environmental, societal, and business domains. The Carbon Bank is one such tangible commitment to driving sustainability within the organization.”

Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President of the Tata Workers’ Union, added, “Sustainability is not just a corporate responsibility but a collective duty that we all share as a community.”

In his speech, Saurabh Kundu, Chief Corporate Sustainability, Tata Steel, outlined the company’s commitment to sustainability and its future plans. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving a sustainable future, mentioning the company’s month-long programme with the Innoventure team, which scouted promising sustainability startups. The closing ceremony of Tata Steel’s Sustainability Month 2024 successfully brought together stakeholders from across the community to celebrate sustainability and discuss the way forward.

The event also featured a panel discussion on the legacy of Jamsetji Tata, the Founder of Tata Steel, and his vision for Jamshedpur. During the event, students from JH Tarapore School, Jusco School South Park, and KSMS Golmuri played a central role, showcasing their interpretation of sustainability through a skit.

The event was also telecast live across all locations of Tata Steel, with employees joining the event in large numbers. The winners of various categories based on sustainability parameters were also recognised during the event.
